みなさん、こんにちは。
今回は、車いすで活躍されているタティアナさんの体験談の一部をご紹介します。
タティアナさんは、モデルなどを中心に活動されているようですね。
いろんな壁となっているものを弾き飛ばすような、そんな溢れんばかりのパワーに圧倒されます。
画一的な女性の「美しさ」ではなく、それぞれが持つ「美しさ」を世界に発信していく。
真っすぐ前を見て前進する、そんな強い強いタティアナさんを是非ご紹介したいと思います。

社会は、身体障害者を社会に貢献できない人間と見て、受け付けないのです。
Society doesn’t expect people with disabilities to want much because they see us as people who don’t add much to society.
私たちは、ただ生存しているだけです。でも、それは間違いだと感じていました。
We just exist. I felt that was wrong,
なぜなら、私には他の人たちと共有する喜びと戦う心があるからです。
because I knew that I had joy and a fighting spirit to share with others.
そして、私は身体障害を持つハリウッド社会の黒人女性です。
And I knew that I had a mission to make an impact. I’m a black woman with a disability in Hollywood,
そして、普通のいわゆる「美しい」というものとは全く違う「美しさ」を持ち、
and I’m the complete opposite of what they see as “beautiful,”
そのことを確信しています。
and I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb.
池田先生が肺結核と戦い、血を吐くような咳で苦しみながらも、
Seeing how much Daisaku Ikeda fought despite whatever illness he was going through, with tuberculosis, coughing up blood and going through so much,
他者を励ますことに命を使おうとしてこられた姿を思い描き、
and still wanting to use his life to encourage someone else,
私も同じようにしようと決意しました。
I thought: I want to be like that.
師匠がされるなら、私にもできる。
If my mentor can do it, I can do it.
私も、他者を励ますために私の命を使っていきたいーー。
I wanted to use my life as a way to inspire someone else.
私は、その決意のまま進みました。
I just went for it.
これが私に幸せをもららすのなら、人がどう思おうと関係ありません。
And it didn’t matter what others thought, as long as it was something that made me happy.
私は、前進の勇気と人間のネットワークを持っているのです。
I got a lot braver to go out and network.

「もし、誰も私のタレントを売ることができなければ、私自身が私を売り込みます」。
I said, “If no one is going to learn how to market me, I’m going to learn how to market myself.”
こうして、私のブログに多くの人たちが注目し、私の人となりに興味を持ち始めました。More people started following my blog and wondering more about who I was.

私は、ここに座って、私が国際的なモデルであるとか、
I never thought I would be able to sit here and tell you that I’m an international model
アップルの社長のティム・クック氏に会ったとか、
or that I’ve met Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple,
テレビに出演したとか、私の作品が映画祭に出たとか、そんなことを話すつもりは決してありませんでした。
or that I’ve had the chance to be on TV, or have my work appear in a film festival. I never thought I would be able to say any of those things.

それよりも、私には、私のストーリーがあるのです。
I have a story to tell—
それは、この世に存在するだけでなく、生きていくこと自体の意味なのです。
there’s more to life than just existing.
私は、もっと多くの身体障害の人々がテレビや映画に出てほしいと思っています。
I want to see more people with disabilities in TV and film.
私は、そのために戦います・・・
I will continue to fight for it・・・
