走り出す君と僕（３）＿弟子の自覚　〔#221〕

「自覚」なのか「形式」なのか
3.16を目前にして

 師弟とは、弟子の「自覚」の問題です。
The bond of mentor and disciple comes down to the awareness of the disciple.

形式ではない。
It's not about formality.

師匠に何回、会ったとか、そばにいるとか、幹部だとか、
Meeting the mentor on numerous occasions, or spending time at the mentor's side, or being entrusted with a leadership position-

それは形式です。
these are all form [rather than essence].

たとえ師匠から離れた地にいようとも、直接話したことがなくても、
Even if people are physically far from the mentor or have never spoken directly with the mentor,

自分が弟子の「自覚」をもって、「師匠の言う通りに実行するのだ」と戦っていれば、それが師弟相対です。
if they are aware of their role as disciples and strive to put the mentor's words into practice, then the mentor-disciple relationship is alive and intact.

根幹は、師匠対自分です。 
How we define our relationship with the mentor is foundation of everything.

組織の機構や役職等は方便です。 
Organizational structures or positions are nothing but expedient means.

私は大学に行けなかった。

I did not go to college.


青春を戸田先生に捧げました。
Instead, I dedicated my youth to President Toda. 

先生の事業が失敗したゆえに、私は大学へ行く予定を変更した。
Because of the failure of President Toda's businesses, I changed my plans to attend college.

「先生、何も心配なさらないでください。私が働いて、全部、立派に立て直します。どうか、ご安心ください」と言いました。
I told him "Please don't worry about anything. I will work: I will fix everything. So please rest assured."

言った通りに、全部やりました。
And I have done everything I said I would.

どん底であった創価学会を、世界の創価学会にしました。
I turned The Soka Gakkai, which had fallen upon the hardest of times, into a worldwide organization. 

戸田先生、牧口先生を世界の偉人として宣揚しました。
I have made the greatness of President Toda and President Makiguchi known to the world.

戸田先生を守ることが、広宣流布を守ることであり、仏法を守ることであった。それ以外に道はなかった。...「師弟の道」に私は徹しました。
I believed that to protect President Toda was protect kosen-rufu and to protect Buddhism. There was no way...I thoroughly devoted myself to the path of mentor and disciple.

先生を支えるために、喜んで進学まで断念したその「心」が今、世界の大学の名誉博士号となっていると私は信じている。
I am confident that the cause I made to support President Toda rather than pursue my plans to attain an education has now come back to me in the form of these honorary degrees from universities across the glove. 

因果の理法は、厳然としています。
The law of cause and effect is unfailing.
